Half a Star is what I would like to leave just for the record.
If I could leave less than a single star I would. I literally just received my scheduled intake call from the one and only KEVIN COX VP of masterworks. At least that what his voicemail said when I called the number back. PAY ATTENTION because I am about to save someone a lot of money and hassle!! Investor beware!!!! They are salesmen at least Kevin Cox VP. Per Kevin they build equity along side your investment taking a piece of everything you invest and if that’s not enough after charging you fees ALL along the way they hit you with an 80/20 commission split years & years later when your investments finally sell. Do the math people you pay 1.5-2% each year over year only to pay 20% when you sell that means the longer your invested the Less you MAKE!!! The more they make!!! That’s NOT a hedge I want in on!! Oh and MOST IMPORTANTLY then minute I told Kevin I was accredited investor and am invested in markets, bonds and Real-estate. The moment I started asking real questions he Hung up on me. At first thought it was just dropped call so I gave him benefit of doubt waited, then called him back left message then texted him since he called me from a cell. His voicemail recording stated he was Kevin Cox VP masterworks. If this is how the VP behaves well I’m glad this happened THANK YOU KEVIN you just saved me money and a lot of future headaches!
Excellent communication, attention to detail. No hard sell, or false expectations. Made to feel as if it was a good decision for me, not the company or a commmision. Gave grest advice for a neophyte in this investment vehicle. It's a great adjunct to balance my portfolio. 5 stars not enough...it covers the whole team!
Evan explained how Masterworks operates in an easy to understand manner. At no point did I feel rushed or pushed to buy something. He also helped me register. I appreciate his patience. I think the registration software/process could be improved to be easier to use.
I wrote them for information because I was curious about the product. Now I CANNOT get them to remove me from their mailing lists. I have left voicemails requesting removal; I have sent more than half a dozen emails requesting same. But absolutely NO response. From this I can only conclude that they are not a legitimate investment opportunity, but rather some sort of spam provider. Beware - DO NOT engage with them unless you want numerous spam emails a week.
RESPONSE: Perhaps you should change your email clients then so you can better find my responses. I'd be happy to share some emails sent to Anthony DeSimone, as well as two sent to "support@masterworks." None bounced back, so all were received, but with no response. And I think it reasonable to assume I would get a response to emails sent to your support address - isn't that what support is for? Also, I have many emails from you that don't have unsubscribe buttons on them, which is a common practice for legitimate organizations. So, given that your support email does not respond to requests and many of your emails have not had unsubscribe buttons, it seems logical to conclude that I should be concerned in dealing with Masterworks. I'd be happy to delete the review if those issues were addressed.
Constantly spamming you after inquiring. They are not even licensed by the SEC and are “testing the waters” for years. AKA the company has no business pretending to be a legitimate avenue for investment. They run the place like a boiler room hoping for suckers to sign up. If you unsubscribe, they start sending you “personalized” spam from Anthony DeSimone to get around the rules. Don’t even bother inquiring
I started fractional investing in Masterworks about 1 1/2 years ago, and since then I've invested $18,000 in various artworks, in investment amounts ranging from $500 to $5000. The Masterworks platform works pretty smoothly. However, you need to remember the investment adage, "past performance doesn't guarantee future results." The incredible rise in artwork values over the past few decades (displayed in Masterworks' marketing) may turn out to have been an atypically meteoric rise that won't be duplicated for quite some time in the future. At this point, the appraised value of my Masterworks portfolio is about 20% below my original investment amount. I'll have to keep my fingers crossed and hope things work out over my anticipated 4- to 7-year investment period.
First time investing in the art world or anything like it. The team took their time to help me understand and answer all questions asked about the investments I made. They helped me feel comfortable making the investment as well.
Worst kind of service ever. The agent named Matt Mason setup a call with me during a workday and without ANY communication whatsoever, declined the calendar invite 5 minutes into the meeting. I was waiting for his call. This happened two weeks ago and till date, Forget an explanation, I haven’t even received an apology - something I fairly expect from any decent human being. If this is the quality of your agents before one even signs up for your services, I can’t even imagine how much one would have to suffer if they ended up investing through your platform. Definitely dodged a bullet!
